Comox Valley Pickleball Association 5th Annual Indoor Tournament

Note- change to event format for Women 4.0 and Women 4.5: Due to registration shortfalls, these events will be merged for round-robin play only into an event called Women 5.0 (and below). That event will feature two pools of six teams. Playoffs will revert to the original Women 4.0 and Women 4.5 groupings, Women 4.0 pool standings will be based only on games with other Women 4.0 teams. Women 4.5 playoffs will be a round-robin format.

The Comox Valley Pickleball Association is pleased to host the 5th Annual Indoor Pickleball tournament May 7-8 at the 19 Wing Fitness & Community Centre in Comox.
Registrations will commence March 26 at 8:00 AM and finish April 30 at 10:00 PM.
Pickleball Brackets software will be used for the tournament.
It is recommended that you and your partner create your individual Pickleball Brackets accounts prior to the commencement of registrations. Doing so will make it easier to specify your partner (required) during registration.
The following Doubles events will be held on Saturday, May 7:
• Men 3.5 ** Estimated start time approx. 11 AM
• Men 4.0 ** Estimated start time approx. 8:30 AM
• Men 4.5 (+) ** Estimated start time approx. 11 AM
• Women 3.5 **Estimated start time approx. 8:30 AM
• Women 4.0 RR games with W4.5; estimated start time approx. 2 PM
• Women 4.5 (+) RR games with W4.0; estimated start time approx. 2 PM
• Each event will consist of round robin play, with two pools of five teams
• Round robin games are scored first to 15 points
• Teams are guaranteed four games
• Playoff round 1: Pool A #1 vs Pool B #2; Pool B #1 vs Pool A #2
• Playoff round 2: Winners of round 1 play for Gold / Silver; losers for Bronze
• Gold medal Playoff games are to 15 points; win by 2, or first to 19; Bronze medal first to 15
• Only Gold medal games will be refereed.
The following Doubles events will be held on Sunday, May 8:
• Mixed 3.5 ** Estimated start time approx. 8:30 AM
• Mixed 4.0 ** Estimated start time approx. 11 AM
• Mixed 4.5 (+) ** Estimated start time approx. 1 PM
• Each event will consist of round robin play, with two pools of six teams
• Round robin games are scored first to 15 points
• Teams are guaranteed five games
• Playoff round 1: Pool A #1 vs Pool B #2; Pool B #1 vs Pool A #2
• Playoff round 2: Winners of round 1 play for Gold / Silver; losers for Bronze
• Playoff games are to 15 points; win by 2, or first to 19
• Only Gold medal games will be refereed.
Note that event formats may be modified depending on registrations.
All events are open to players aged 18 or over (no additional age brackets).
All players are strongly encouraged to be members of Pickleball Canada.
Type of rating: Self rating
In level 3.5 events, both players on a team must self-rate as 3.5 or less.
In level 4.0 events, both players on a team must self-rate as 4.0 or less
In level 4.5 (+) events there are no restrictions on self-rating.
Each player can only register for one event Saturday, and one event Sunday.
Registration fee: $40 per individual, per event, payable through PayPal only. (You do not need to have your own PayPal account.)
Both players on team must register and pay individually in order to secure a place in the tournament. The second player on a team must register and pay within 2 days of the first player, otherwise that team will be moved to the Wait List.
Individual registrations are not available.
Pool Standings are determined by the Number of Games Won, rather than by total points. If two or more teams are tied the tie break criteria are:
1. head to head
2. point differential for all matches played
3. head to head point differential
4. point differential against next highest team.

Proof of Vaccination is required as per Provincial Health Orders.
Masks must be worn in all common spaces including change rooms. They may be removed during your exercise but are encouraged to worn at all times if possible.
The gymnasium has six courts and a hardwood surface.
Locker access is available, however please do not use any of the other fitness facilities.
The tournament will use the Onix indoor ball.
Clean shoes must be used in the gymnasium.
Drinks, snacks, and light lunch will be provided in the Craft Room.
No food or drinks other than water are allowed in the gymnasium.
Text messages will be used to summon players to court. Bring your cell phone and make sure that you enter the correct phone number when you register. When you set up your PickleballBrackets account, be sure to select “Yes, I want texts” to the question "Receive in game text messages?".
Pool standings will be communicated on the PickleballBrackets.com website for the tournament. Make sure that you or your partner have a device that can access the site.
Certain areas of the 19 Wing Fitness and Recreation Centre may have poor cell phone reception, e.g. the locker rooms.

Refund Policy

Refunds: Teams withdrawing April 23 or earlier will be refunded $30 per team member. No refunds after April 23.
Teams are recommended to find their own substitute if one player needs to withdraw. The player who will be replacing the withdrawn player must have a Pickleball Brackets account. The original registration payment slides to the substitute player.
