Welcome to the 1st Asheville is Awesome Pickleball Tournament at the Asheville Racquet Club. Asheville is known for a vibrant arts scene, historic architecture and great beer. The vast 19th-century Biltmore estate displays artwork by masters like Renoir. The Downtown Art District is filled with galleries and museums, and in the nearby River Arts District, former factory buildings house artists' studios. Boasting more breweries per capita than any U.S. city, roughly 100 local beers can be enjoyed in Asheville, served on draft and in bottles. Each of our breweries has its own unique atmosphere and personality and the same could be said for the beer. There will be plenty to keep players busy when they aren't on the courts....and extra day is encouraged in order to experience the Asheville vibe.

The schedule is as follows:

Friday April 28th Senior Men's & Women's Doubles - 60+ and 70+ age brackets
Saturday April 29th Mixed Doubles - all age brackets
Sunday April 30th Men's and Women's Doubles - 15+, 35+ and 50+ age brackets

Competition each day may begin as early as 8:00 AM. Specific start times for each event will be posted and emailed to players approximately one week prior to the event. Players participating in the senior events on Friday may also play in the double events on Sunday.

Format of play will be round robin. Medal rounds will follow the round robin play if the bracket size is over 3 teams.

As registration proceeds, tournament management reserves the option to combine brackets as needed if brackets do not fill. If brackets are combined to create playable brackets, awards will be based on the original division and not the combined bracket. Brackets will be combined by age if possible to avoid combining skills.

Skills levels include 2.5,3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5+.

Age groups are 19+, 35+, 50+, 60+, 70+

A team must play at the skill level of the higher rated player (or higher) and the age group of the younger player. Age is calculated as of 12/31/2023.

RATINGS

- PickleballBrackets.com ratings will be used.
-Players with a UTPR or DUPR that is higher than their Georgia Pickleball Association calculated tournament rating may be moved to the higher level at the discretion of the tournament director.

You may register and identify your partner or request "Need partner". Your partner must register within five days of your registration or the team will be moved to the wait list. When the identified partner registers after the five day grace period, the team will automatically move from the wait list back to the active list if there is a slot available and both teams have paid. If a player needs a partner, the team will automatically move from the wait list to the active list once a partner is identified, registers, and both players have paid if there is an available slot to move to. NOTE: Your spot in the tournament is not guaranteed until your partner has registered and all fees have been paid in full.

There are no referees. Matches are self-monitored. If a referee is requested, we will do our best to provide one.

Additional Information
All players age 50 and older will receive a 2023 US Senior Pickleball (USSP) membership at no additional charge. USSP members receive a $10 discount off future USSP events as well as earn USSP ranking points.

The North Carolina Pickleball Association (NCPA) is a division of the Southern Pickleball Association which sanctions tournaments in 8 southern states. The premium NCPA 12 month membership is a $30 fee. NCPA memberships allow players to play in all Southern Pickleball sanctioned tournaments and leagues. Premium members receive a $10 discount on most Southern Pickleball sanctioned events. NCPA will maintain ratings and rankings for all players. NCPA strongly encourages all players to also become members of USA Pickleball. Players can check their ratings at Pickleballbrackets.com.

Refund Policy

If the tournament is cancelled due to weather prior to the start of an event, we will refund your registration fees less any prorated incurred expenses.

If an event has STARTED and is cancelled due to weather there will be no refunds. We will make every effort to complete any event that has been started. Tournament Director reserves the right to change format, shorten games, or make any other changes they feel will help complete the event.

Players who do not show up for their event and fail to notify the tournament director prior OR leave the event without notifying the tournament director after it has started are subject to a $25 fine. The fine must be paid before registering for any other GPA events.
