Save the Date: The Maryland Open will be held from August 29th - September 1st, 2024

The 2024 Maryland Open will be part of the PPA's UPA World Championship. All medalists in each event will qualify for the UPA Championship to be held November 4th-10th in Texas. Each medalist will receive a discount on their registration fee (Gold 100%, Silver 50%, and Bronze 33%).

WHERE: Play will be held indoors at two Dill Dinker locations (Columbia and Finksburg).

REGISTRATION FEE: For amateur events - your registration fee of $80 INCLUDES your first event. Each additional event will be $20. (PickleballBrackets.com charges an additional $5 fee for each event, max of $10). Open play (cash payout) events will have higher event fees (see below). Register before August 5th and receive a tournament T-shirt. After that date, tournament shirts will be available for purchase.

GENERAL RULES

* 2024 USA Pickleball Rules will apply.
* Team Age bracket will be determined by the age of the youngest partner. Age as of 12/31/2024.
* Team Skill level will be determined by the highest skill level of the player on the team.
* Players can play down in age and up in skill.

Amatuer events are round-robin, with doubles events playing one game to 15 points, win by 2, and singles events playing one game to 11, win by 2. We will have skill levels of 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, and Open. Age groups will generally be split between 34 and under, 35-49, 50+, and 60+. For information regarding Open events, see below.

Tournament directors reserve the right to combine events either based on skill or age to provide the best overall playing experience, given the circumstances.

Please note that if you are playing in a doubles event and your partner does not register within 20 days of when you register, you will automatically be moved to the waitlist. Your spot in the main event will NOT be saved. If (after you are both registered and paid for the event) there is room in the main event, you will be moved back to the main event. If the event has filled up in the meantime, you will remain on the waitlist until a spot opens up.

Please note that after main draws are seeded and finalized, no partner changes are allowed.

PAYMENT/PARTNER POLICY

Players must be paid and have a registered and paid partner to be confirmed. Within one month of the event, players not paid and without registered and paid partners will be moved to a wait list if the division in which a spot is being held is filled with fully registered and paid teams.

PARTNER REPLACEMENT POLICY

After registration is closed, any registered player losing a partner must replace that partner with an already registered player. The replacement partner must be in the same skill/age group that you are scheduled to play. Players can play down in age and up in skill. Replacements need to be known and communicated to the registration contact 2 days before you are scheduled to play. Replacements can be found on the players needing partners list.

Prize Money

Open events will all be double elimination WITH a come-around (the winner of the consolation bracket will play the winner of the winners bracket for Gold/Silver).

We will be conducting two Open events for all Doubles events. There will be an Open event for all ages, and a Senior Open event for those 50+.

For Singles, we will be hosting one Open event each for Men and Women which will be open to all ages.

Doubles games in the winners bracket will be the best 2 of 3 games, each game to 11, win by 2. Consolation bracket games will be one game to 15, win by 2. The Gold/Silver match will be best 2 of 3 games, each game to 11, win by 2. If it is the first loss for the loser of the Gold/Silver match, then one additional game to 15, win by 2 will be played to determine the winner.

Singles games in the winners bracket will be the best 2 of 3 games, each game to 11, win by 2. Consolation bracket games will be one game to 11, win by 2. The Gold/Silver match will be best 2 of 3 games, each game to 11, win by 2. If it is the first loss for the loser of the Gold/Silver match, then one additional game to 15, win by 2 will be played to determine the winner.

All Open event fees ($100) will be used as payouts for each event. (50% for Gold, 30% for Silver, and 20% for Bronze)

Open play events do not qualify for the first event fee during registration.

*NOTE: Anyone is welcome to sign up for Open events, however, we reserve the right to replace your team with a higher ranked team up to one month before the event. As of July 29th, we will not automatically bump a team in an Open event for a higher ranked team. If your team is bumped, we will move you to the next highest level event you qualify for (if a spot is available), and you will be refunded the difference in your event cost. If there is no event available to move your team, you will receive a full refund.

Refund Policy

Refunds are available until July 28th, 2024, minus a $30 processing fee (which includes the fee charged by PickleballBrackets.com).

After July 28th, no refunds will be given.

This is an indoor event, and no refunds will be given for weather.
