Description
The matches will be played on 15 indoor gymnasium floors all under one roof on the campus of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, IL.
What: A non-sanctioned, self-officiated, self-rated, double elimination bracket by level indoor pickleblall tournament. A non-sanctioned event means you do not have to be a member of US Pickleball Association USAPA to play in this tournament. Self-officiated means that you will call your lines and keep score during your matches. Self-rate means you determine what skill level you will be playing in for the tournament based on our judgment of your skill level/ if you have a USAPA rating then you must play at that level or higher.
Frequently Asked Questions:
Can kids under age 18 play? The flyer and information says age 18+ is the required to play in the tournament. Kids under age 18 are eligible to play in the tournament as long as they have a legal guardian with them and the waiver is signed by the legal guardian.
Do I have to be a highly skilled player in order to play? No- You will play against players that have a similar skill rating. We have a skill level 2.5 which is for people who are just starting out on their pickleball learning journey. If you sign up for this level then you'll play with similar opponents. We also have skill levels that go up to 5.0 which is a professional player. The event you play in will be determined by your skill level.
Do I have to qualify before playing this event? No- You can come and play in this event even if you haven't played in a pickleball tournament before. This is a great tournament for you to try if you haven't been to one. We have lots of courts and there won't be a lot of waiting around to play. We have 15 indoor courts all under one roof.
Is your tourney only for officially rated players? You do not have to be an officially rated player to register for the tournament and play. You will need an account with Pickleballbrackets.com in order to register. If you don't already have a computer rating then you will be prompted to 'self rate'. You will enter the rating that you think you are and then and proceed to checkout. A self-rated player is invited to play in this event.
Is there a fee to get in as a spectator? There is no fee to attend as a spectator. You're welcome to come watch matches. We will have seating available for spectators.
Partner Matching: We will make every effort to match you with a partner if you sign up for any of the events without a designated partner. Please be sure to note that on your registration form that you need a partner for the event.
Additional Information
Friday 3/15/2024: 3 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. : Open play (no charge); exhibition matches. Players are invited to warm up on the courts and get used to the layout, the lighting, the ball and the courts. There is no charge to attend Friday's warm up for either players or their guests. We will have a pizza party (no charge for registered players - guests $5 each (Bring a homemade dessert and we will waive one $5 guest fee)
Saturday 3/16/2024 : Doors open 9:30 a.m.- check in; 9:45 a.m.-10:15 a.m. warm up. 10:15 a.m. events begin- Women's Doubles will be first; Men's doubles to follow (early p.m. start) and will continue until finished. All Ages (10+) doubles tournament based on skill level of higher ranked player (2.5-5.0+) - Women's Doubles and Men's Doubles.
Sunday: 3/17/2024 Doors open 9:30 a.m.- check in; 9:45 a.m.-10:15 a.m. warm up. 10:15 a.m. events begin - All Ages (10+) mixed doubles events based on skill level of higher ranked player (2.5-5.0+) ; Also a separate Mixed Doubles event for Age 70+ sorted by skill.
Monday: 3/18/2024: Doors open 9:30 a.m.- check in; 9:45 a.m.-10:15 a.m. warm up. 10:15 a.m. events begin . - Women's Doubles will be first; Men's doubles to follow (early p.m. start) and will continue until finished. Everyone Age 60+ Women's Doubles, Men's Doubles
Early Registration: Everyone registered by 3/1/2024 will receive a tournament athletic moisture wicking shirt (similar material to dryfit) and will be entered for a drawing to have dinner with a Pro on either Friday or Saturday night.
Note: Players between ages of 10 and 17 must have legal guardian with them and sign the waiver on behalf of the player.
Health & Safety
Gym shoes are required. No black soled shoes allowed.
Lockers are available for no charge - there's an integrated lock - make up your own code.
There are locker rooms available with showers. Bring your own towel.
Refund Policy
Refunds will be issued for requests made by 3/12/2024. Refunds will be sent AFTER the tournament is over or by 3/31/2024.
