Description
Welcome Picklers!
We hope you register for the 2023 Fraser Valley Open tournament held on Saturday, August 19 and Sunday, August 20 at the South Surrey Athletic Park. This tournament will be a PCO sanctioned, outdoor tournament and offers up to $14,400 in prize money for the Open events. Please read the prize money information below.
Event brackets will be:
Saturday, August 19: Women’s Doubles 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0 and Open
Saturday, August 19: Men’s Doubles 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0 and Open
Sunday, August 20: Mixed Doubles 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0 and Open
Event Registration Policy
To register for an event, at least one player must be rated at a particular skill level and the other player may be rated one skill level below. For example, to enter a 4.0 event, one player may have a 3.5 rating, but his/her partner must have a 4.0 rating. IMPORTANT: The player with the higher rating must sign up first. If the lower rated player tries to register first, you will not be able to register for the event. In other words and using the example above, the 4.0 player must register before the 3.5 rated player. A team that has two 3.5 players may not register for a 4.0 event and must register in the 3.5 event.
PCO Membership
ALL participants must have a current Pickleball Canada (PCO) Membership to play in this tournament. To avoid registration complications, we highly recommend that you have an active, paid for PCO membership before registration opens on Wednesday, March 1.
Tournament Fees
Registration Fee for all players: $60
All Open Events – MDO, WDO and MXDO: $60 per event
All other events 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5 and 5.0 events: $15 per event
Prize Money for the Open Events
To be eligible to play in the Open event, BOTH players must have a rating of 5.0 or higher based on previous tournament play. Open players' ratings will be reviewed on July 1, 2023. Ratings listed on pickleballbrackets.com as well as UTPR ratings above 5.0 will be approved (but cannot be a self-rated, first-time rating).
Additional Information
Enter as a team and make sure your partner registers within one day of you registering or you will automatically be removed from the event and put on the waitlist. Priority will be given to full teams. If you are on the waitlist, and your partner registers, you will be added to the event provided there is space.
FYI: Pickleball Brackets lists teams on the waitlist in alphabetical order of the first person of the team that registered. NOT IN ORDER OF REGISTRATION. However, teams will be moved from the waitlist into the event in order of registration! This is a feature of Pickleball Brackets and is out of our control.
You are guaranteed to play, at least, two matches or two games to 11 and one game to 15, per event.
BEFORE YOU REGISTER
All registrants must have a valid Pickleball Canada Membership to play in this tournament. Please ensure your Pickleball Canada Membership number and your skill level are up to date in your pickleballbrackets.com profile before registering for this tournament. If you are not a Pickleball Canada member, you can become a member at https://pickleballcanada.org/
PCO and Pickleball BC membership costs $12.50 for the year.
If you can't remember your Pickleball Canada number, check here: https://secure.pickleballcanada.org/login/
The Tournament Director may modify the format depending on registration numbers.
ONLINE registration only. Registration is not complete until BOTH partners have registered, signed the online waiver, and PAID; online payment via PayPal using a credit card. When the maximum per event is reached based on fully registered/paid teams, others will be added to the waitlist.
In the case of waitlists, in doubles events - teams will take priority over individuals.
COMPLETE registration means: Both partners have registered, signed the waiver and paid in full.
The Tournament Committee reserves the right to place players in the Skill Group based on their current CTPR/UTPR/USAPA rating skill groups based on registration. The Tournament Committee has the right to make changes to the tournament, combine divisions, or change and alter the format depending on the number of registrations received.
It is each player’s responsibility to ensure their paddle is USAPA approved as non-compliant paddles are subject to Match Forfeiture.

Prize Money
Prize Money for the Open Events
To be eligible to play in the Open event, both players must have a rating of 5.0 or higher based on previous tournament play. Open players' ratings will be reviewed on July 1, 2023. Both CTPR and UTPR ratings above 5.0 will be approved (but cannot be a self-rated, first-time rating).
If conditions described above are met, the following payout will be in effect for MDO, WDO and MXDO:
1st Place - $2,400; 2nd Place - $1,600; 3rd Place $800
A minimum number of eight (8) 5.0 rated teams (both players’ ratings must be 5.0 or higher on Jan. 1, 2023) must register for an Open event for the above payout to be in effect. If this is not the case by the registration deadline of July 15, 2023, the tournament committee will contact players who registered for the Open event(s) and give them the option of withdrawing from the tournament and receiving a full refund OR participate in a combined 5.0 and Open event bracket with an adjusted, lower event fee for Open players using the following prize money payout structure.
1st Place – 50% of the registration and event fee paid by participants in this event
2nd Place – 30% of the registration and event fee paid by participants in this event
3rd Place – 20% of the registration and event fee paid by participants in this event
For example, there are 8 registered teams in the 5.0 bracket and 4 teams in the Open bracket.
That’s a total of 12 Teams = 24 players (16 players from the 5.0 bracket and 8 players from the Open bracket).
Registration and event fees paid by 24 players in this combined event: 24 x $75 = $1,800
Total Prize Money: $1,800
According to the payout structure described above gold, silver and bronze teams will receive:
1st Place - $900
2nd Place - $540
3rd Place - $260
