FAQ FOR TOURNAMENTS:
1. Will these results go to DUPR? Yes, this event's results will go to DUPR.
2. Beginners, or those who have not played many tournaments yet, wonder how tournament ratings work and which event they should play. Answer: Everyone gets a rating as they play tournaments. Until that time, players should ask for an evaluation on their level to sign up for the appropriate level, which will help them have a good experience. Players may self rate until they start getting results to get a rating. When in doubt, it is fine to play the lowest level event offered. Most events are designed to accommodate players within 1/2 of a point of each other (example...currently "3.5" would be for players 3.5 to 3.99).
3. Can I play up a level? Yes, you can almost always play up a level beyond your rating to challenge yourself, but you cannot play down a level.
4. Can I play up an age group? No, you cannot play in an older age group (example...a 35 year old cannot play in the 50 and up). You can almost always play in a younger age group (example....a 35 year old can play in the 19-34 age group).
Brackets will be either Double Elimination or Round Robin depending on the number of participating teams/players. Tournament Director & Coordinator reserve the right to adjust the Bracket Format as needed.
Double Elimination bracket matches will be best 2/3 games to 11 win by 2 in the Winners' Bracket and 1 game to 15 win by 2 in the Consolation Bracket. Teams/players in the Consolation Bracket will have a chance to advance back into the medal rounds. Gold Medal matches will be best 2/3 games to 11 win by 2 with a Tiebreaker Match (if necessary) being 1 game to 15 win by 2. Bronze Medal matches will be 1 game to 15 win by 2. Tournament Director & Coordinator reserve the right to adjust the Match Format as needed.
Round Robin bracket matches will be either best 2/3 games to 11 win by 2 or 1 game to 15 win by 2. This will be followed by single elimination bracket play to determine medalists. Tournament Director & Coordinator reserve the right to adjust the Match Format as needed.
Medals will be awarded to the top 3 teams/players in each bracket.
Please note that age / skill levels may be combined after registration closes at the determination of the Tournament Director &/or coordinator to ensure that we offer the best possible play for as many players as possible.
